Film reviews have triggered a strong discussion in Tollywood and the Telugu states with prominent persons from the Telugu film industry lashing out at "half-baked" analyses soon after the release of a movie in the media, especially in the social media.
Popular young hero Jr NTR stirred the hornet's nest by training his guns at the "half-knowledge" of "so-called" reviewers expressing their opinion about a movie without realizing the damage they are causing to those producing the films after investing several crore of rupees.
Speaking at a film function recently, the actor went hammer and tongs at the manner in which film reviews were being written of late causing irreparable damage and loss to the film industry.
Reacting to these comments another lead actor Mahesh Babu responded in an equivocal fashion. Saying that he did not want to make any comment on NTR's opinion on film reviews, he said that of late reviews were indeed triggering controversies. However, the simple logic was that if a film was good it would be appreciated and if a film was bad it would draw adverse comments, he observed.
However, another actor Manchu Vishnu extended his support to the views expressed by NTR by also criticizing the manner in which film reviews were being written. When reviewing a film the writer should keep in view the efforts of the actors, producers, directors and others that went into its production, but that was not being done, and fair play was lacking, he opined.
Producer Shobu Yarlagadda took strong objection to certain so-called reviewers writing their reviews without even watching the movie fully. He lashed out at a US-based website Telugu 360 for tweeting comments just halfway through the film SPYder. He felt that a true review about the movie could be written only after it was watched completely, and not according to the perceptions of the writers but keeping in view the cine-goers' likes and dislikes.
A reviewer however pointed out that when just as people made many enquiries about the quality of a product before buying it, a cine-goer would like to watch a film after analyzing the reviews. He pointed out that a family in the USA would spend 200 dollars (Rs 13,000) to watch a movie, and when they were spending such a huge amount on a movie, they would like to know whether it would be worthwhile watching it or not.
Thus the controversy over film reviews triggered off by Jr. NTR is likely to escalate in the coming days what with a number of films slated to be released during the upcoming festive season and the raging war of words between the film industry and the reviewers.
