Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana claimed that there is no threat to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, responding to media queries on
3 Congress MLAs quitting the party to join the TRS.
Botsa was talking to reporters after a program held to commemmorate the 27th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday.
He stated that the resignations of Jupally Krishna Rao, S Satynarayana and T Rajaiah would not affect the ruling party.
Botsa said that he had tried to convince the MLAs on staying with the Congress, but that they had decided to quit "purely due to personal reasons".
He said that if Telangana was indeed the major reason for the resignation, then all MLAs and MPs from the region would have left the Congress party.
The PCC president reiterated that the High Command would soon take a decision on the Telangana statehood issue, and requested leaders from the region to act with restraint.
Replying to a query on whether he proposes to take action against MLAs who have joined the YSR Congress party, Botsa answered in the negative.
He said that these MLAs had informed him about their decision merely by way of an SMS, not even discussing the issue with him. He said that no action needs to be taken against those who "simply walk out" of the party.
Meanwhile, former PCC president D Srinivas said that the Telangana MLAs' decision to quit the Congress to join the TRS was a hasty decision. He said that the Congress High Command and the Centre were about to take a decision on the issue, and that leaving the party at this juncture was a politically incorrect decision.
Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy also maintained the same stand, and claimed that there is no threat to the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. He said that if required, the party would prove its majority on the floor of the House. (INN)
