Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy on Thursday denied an increase in the chain-snatching and robbery cases in Hyderabad and the surrounding areas of the Ranga Reddy district.
Replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Dr Lakshman and others, the Home Minister said that 1,187 incidents of chain-snatching had been reported in the city so far this year compared to 1,716 in 2013 and 1,485 in 2012.
Similarly, 86 cases of robbery were reported this year as against 121 in 2013 and 156 in 2012.
He said that visible policing had been improved. Crimes under the heads of robbery and chain-snatching were analyzed, the policemen's beats were reorganised, job charts had been issued to the police vehicles and they had been positioned at strategic points.
Decoy parties were moving in the areas, and a watch was being maintained over the criminals, he said.
Responding to supplementary questions asked by MLAs Chintala Ramchandra Reddy (BJP), D K Aruna (Congress) and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (MIM), the Home Minister said 1,500 new motorcycles and 1,600 Innova vehicles had been provided to the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates.
Nearly Rs 70 crores had been spent to ensure women's safety, and almost 1,000 CC cameras had already been installed in the Central Zone, he added. (INN)
