Union Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha today said that there was no proposal to change any norms of the 14th Financial Commission, which had submitted its report on according Special Status to States.
He gave a written reply to Anakapalle MP Srinivas Rao in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The minister clarified that as per the present norms, there was no possibility to accord Special Status to Andhra Pradesh.
He, however, assured that the Centre would provide special assistance to the State as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.
He said that the Centre had already released Rs 4,403 crores in 2014-15 and Rs 2,000 crores in 2015-16 as envisaged in the State bifurcation act.
Giving the breakup, Sinha said that the Centre had sanctioned Rs 2,803 crores to fill the deficit budget, Rs 700 crores for the development of backward districts, Rs 2,050 crores for the construction of the new capital, and Rs 850 crores for the construction of the Polavaram project.
