The city police on Friday denied permission to the Visalandhra Mahasabha, which wanted to organise a workshop-cum-exhibition on the topic of a united Andhra Pradesh.
The Visalandhra Mahasabha had originally planned to conduct a 2-day workshop-cum-exhibition from 22 October at Jubilee Hall, Public Gardens, to showcase the importance of an integrated Andhra Pradesh.
However, the police has cancelled the permission for the event, fearing "law-and-order problems".
Reacting to the denial of police permission, Visalandhra Mahasabha representative Parakala Prabhakar said that the decision was unfortunate and they were being denied the fundamental right of expression.
He said that the organisation would approach the Human Rights Commission and the Court.
It may be mentioned here that earlier this month the Visalandhra Mahasabha had held a press meet at Somajiguda Press Club asking the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee to exempt educational institutions from the Sakala Janula Samme.
However, the press meet was disrupted by some Telangana lawyers. The city police is learnt to have cancelled the permission for the next event, fearing a similar situation this time. (INN)
