On the third day of interrogation of film artists today, the SIT officials questioned actor Subbaraju for seven hours at Abkari Bhavan situated in Nampally.
During the last two days film director Puri Jagannadh and cinematographer Shyam K Naidu were subject to questioning. Actors Tarun Kumar and Charmee Kaur are expected to be questioned next.
So far the SIT officials seem to have concentrated mainly on establishing the link between the artists being questioned and Calvin Mascarenhas, the kingpin of the drug mafia which was busted on July 2. The questioning of the three film personalities till now mainly focused on knowing whether they knew Calvin and whether they were getting the drugs for personal use or also making them available to their close friends and associates.
However, through the grilling by the SIT officials for hours together, the film artistes seem to have given the usual laconic replies about their knowing Calvin, claiming that they had come into contact with him at functions and events as he was an event manager. No startling information could be elicited during the interrogations so far, despite all the media glare it has attracted, especially in television channels.
While the interrogation of Tollywood artists is continuing, the SIT officials now also seem to want to focus on the bars and pubs which they believe have become the preferred places of contact for supply.
The SIT is planning to meet the owners of bars and pubs which are frequented by the youth, especially students and IT professionals. These places are popular among peddlers to trap prospective clientele.
Also, after issuing notices to some popular courier services which were suspected to have been used for smuggling the drugs from outside the state and country, the investigating officials are now also putting the postal service in their radar.
