In a significant development - thanks to the heavy rains, very good inflows in Krishna Basin, and the subsequent reduction of demand - power utilities, on Thursday, lifted power cuts to the industrial sector.
Energy Department Special Chief Secretary M Sahoo, while reviewing the general power supply situation with Suresh Chanda (MD/APTRANSCO), P Ramesh (JMD/APTRANSCO, Munindra (Special Secretary, Energy) and other senior officials, said that the lifting of power cuts is good news to about 2.5 lakh industrial consumers in the state who will now get their full quota of contracted demand after a long period.
"The high reservoir levels, and the optimization of power generation through hydel plants, helped the state remove power holidays to industries. This paves way for the industrial and economical development of the state," he said.
Suresh Chanda suggested that the CMDs of all DISCOMs focus on extending adequate supply to all categories of consumers, especially the domestic and industrial sectors, apart from ensuring 7 hours of power supply to the farming community as per the government's policy.
The CMD further said that reliable & interruption-free supply will be provided to industrial consumers through express feeders.
Meanwhile, APTRANSCO received a communication from APERC, removing the prevailing restriction & control (R&C) measures, with effect from August 1. As a result, all categories of consumers covered under these R&C measures will now receive 100% power supply. (INN)
