No Change In 3-Capitals Plan: AP Home Minister

Mekathoti Sucharita made it clear that the AP government was committed to the decentralization of the administration, despite the HC ruling.
Hyderabad | 5th March 2022
In the wake of the Andhra Pradesh High Court ruling that Amaravathi alone could be the capital of the State, top YSRCP leaders, including Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, had maintained silence, but Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita made it clear that the government was committed to the decentralization of the administration.

Inaugurating an event under the aegis of the Mahila Commission in Nagarjuna University on Friday, Sucharitha asserted that the power to take a decision on the location of a State's capital rested solely with the State government, and that the Centre had also made that clear several times.

Asked whether the State government would go to the Supreme Court and challenge the High Court ruling, the minister replied in the affirmative.

She also reiterated that the State government's policy to form three capital cities was for decentralization of the administration.
