A pilot of the Indian Navy was killed and three others injured, when a Chetak helicopter ‘IN 486’ crashed into a Sarada river near Thummapalla village in the vicinity of Ankepally town in the district on Wednesday.
The helicopter was flying low and eyewitnesses say that it came in contact with high-tension wires along the bridge on the river.
The chopper was flown by Captain Rishikesh, and the 3 others on board were trainee pilots. The identity of the pilot who died in the crash was revealed by the Naval officials as Officer Rank POD, K Kumar. An Indian Navy spokesperson said that Officer Kumar died on the spot.
According to police, all the injured have been admitted to a local government hospital.
