Hyderabad | 5th October 2016
As part of the weekly review of the development of Andhra Pradesh's capital city Amaravati, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu conducted the second meeting today to discuss its core plans including flood protection measures, Kondaveeti Vagu discharge management, beautification of Krishna River front and the protection and sustainable use of islands in the Krishna delta.
Naidu said that the best international practices would be employed in the implementation of the "blue plan". As part of the plan, the CM advised engineers to visualize the Krishna river as part of both Vijayawada and the future city of Amaravati, connecting both of them through waterways. The 'blue plan' for Amaravati aims to make it a disaster (floods and tsunami) proof city.
Rob Steijn, an engineering consultant from Netherlands, with experience of working in more than 80 nations, currently working on the Amaravati plan, made a detailed presentation regarding the progress made so far on the 'blue plan'.
A discussion on navigable canals was also presented by Steijn.
The CM told the consultant that AP wanted to preserve its natural resources, and urged to come up with measures for optimal use.
Naidu directed officials of the CCDMC, CRDA, revenue, irrigation, environment and forest, and the Inland Waterways Authority of India to work in tandem.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Municipal Administration, CCDMC chairman P Narayana, Lakshmi Parthasarathi, Principal Secretaries Satish Chandra, G Sai Prasad and Ajay Jain and other officials.
