Telangana Nagara Samithi president and Nagarkurnool MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy, on Wednesday, alleged that Information and Public Relations minister D K Aruna had visited New Delhi over the Telangana issue at the instance of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and some Seemandhra leaders.
Talking to reporters at the media point of the state Secretariat, Nagam alleged that Aruna, who he said had never participated in the statehood agitation, had gone to New Delhi without any provocation, to meet the Central leaders over the Telangana issue.
Nagam described Aruna's visit to the national capital as the a political stunt to dilute the actual statehood agitation.
The Nagarkurnool MLA said that the Telangana issue should be discussed during the ongoing global biodiversity conference. He said that it was strange that the government was willing to speak on the issues related to protection of animals and plants, but that it was "not concerned about discussing precious human lives". He said that hundreds of youth had committed suicide demanding statehood for the region, and that the same should be discussed on all platforms.
Nagam also questioned the rationale behind spending nearly Rs. 600 crore for the biodiversity meet. He asked the state government to explain what it would achieve by such a huge expenditure. (INN)
