Condemning the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, which claimed more than 18 lives and injured 131, Telugu Desam Politburo member Yerram Naidu on Friday demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. He said Chidambaram must own moral responsibility for his failure in maintaining security in Maharashtra.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of the politburo meeting held at NTR Trust Bhavan under the chairmanship of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Yerram Naidu said that his party has condemned the incident, and expressed sympathies to the next to kin of those affected by the blasts.
Holding the Intelligence Bureau and Union Home Minister responsible for their failure in discharging duties effectively, he demanded Chidambaram's resignation.
He also condemned the statement of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who had said, "It is very difficult to stop every single terrorist attack. The idea is that we have to fight terrorism at the local level. We have improved leaps and bounds. But terrorism is something that is impossible to stop all the time."
Yerram Naidu said the politburo had also discussed the strategy to be adopted in the Lok Sabha over the draft of the Lok Pal Bill.
The meeting also condemned the state government's indifferent attitude in addressing farmers' problems, and its failure to provide minimum support price to farm produce.
It also condemned the government's decision to increase the fares of the APSRTC, which he said would burden the poor and the middle-class, and demanded a roll-back of the prices immediately.
Yerram Naidu said the party would intensify its agitation against the "anti-people policies" of the government. (INN)
