Movie Theatres' Bandh In AP, Telangana From March 2
South Indian States' Cine Producers' Council D Suresh Babu announced that cinemas in AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala would be closed from tomorrow.
The South Indian States' Cine Producers' Council has decided to observe a "cine theatres bandh" from March 2 in protest against the attitude of digital services providers.
The Council's Joint Action Committee chairman D Suresh Babu today informed the media that they were closing the theatres in AP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.
After the JAC meeting, Babu said that the digital service providers were not collecting the Virtual Print Fee from English films, but were collecting it from the regional films. That was unfair and discriminatory, and the theatres would stay closed till the digital service providers reduced the VPF prices, he said.
"Not only are the VPF prices high, there are also many problems in the cinema theatres. The spectators are vexed with 20-minute advertisements. The people are not coming to the theatres to watch advertisements. And the fee for movie trailers has also increased," Suresh Babu said.
