Minister for Arogyasri, Pitani Satyanarayana, said on Saturday that the state government was mulling a proposal to provide treatment cover to people afflicted by dengue under the Arogyasri Health Insurance Scheme.
Talking to media persons in Guntur, Satyanarayana said that the disease was rampant in the state due to the almost incessant rains and the stagnation of water. He added that viral fevers had been affecting the people across the state.
The Minister said that the government was considering proposals to extend the Arogyasri benefits to cover more diseases in the coming days, in contradiction to the claims made by various opposition parties that the scheme would be withdrawn.
Satyanarayana revealed that the government had decided to fill up 2,435 vacant posts in the medical department and added that that would help the Arogyasri beneficiaries.
The Minister revealed that 932 diseases had been covered under the Arogyasri scheme so far.
