Over 2,000 acres of paddy fields were submerged by the rains, in the right canal of the Vamsadhara project, following a breach at Ampolu in Gara mandal in Srikakakulam district.
The inflows into the project increased, following incessant rains in the adjoining areas of north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Talking to media persons after inspecting the breach, along with District Cooperative Marketing Society chairman Krishna Murthy, Uttarandhra Vamsadhara chief engineer Jagan Mohan Rao said that there was a 4-metre stretch of breach at Ampolu, in the right canal, and that officials are making efforts to contain the breach in the next 24 hours.
He said that the breach was caused by the incessant rains in the adjoining areas of the Vamsadhara project, in Odish.
Stating that about 60-70 cusecs of water is flowing in the right canal, he said that a heavy inflow of water isexpected in the next 24 hours because of rains in river basin areas in Odisha. (INN)
