The depression, which crossed the Andhra coast at Bapatla in Guntur district on Wednesday at 5.30 am, lay centred about 50 km northwest of Bapatla.
According to Meteorological Department sources, the depression would weaken into a well marked low pressure area. Under its influence, there will be rain or thunder showers in Telangana, scattered rain in Rayalaseema, and heavy to very heavy rains in north coastal Andhra during the next 48 hours.
According to official figures, the heavy rains and flooding have so far claimed 26 lives. The floods have also affected over 5 lakh hectares of crops, and over 4000 ha horticulture crop.
The cattle loss was put at 349, fodder damage in 110 ha, number of houses damaged as 502, and over one lakh persons were affected in 1148 villages.
The rains claimed 4 lives in Prakasam district, and all rivers in the district were in spate. The traffic between Gudlur and Kandukur was disrupted following the overflow of Upputeru. The irrigation officials lifted 12 crest gates of Gundlakamma as it was receiving massive flow of water due to heavy rains in catchment areas.
In Nellore district, the Kaivalya and Penna rivers were in spate. Traffic between Vinukonda and Addanki was disrupted as Ponkeru rivulet was overflowing. Rompivalasa in Srikakulam district was submerged under water as Budamuru Gadda was overflowing due to massive rain waters.
