Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao today called the BJP candidate for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduate constituency's MLC seat, sitting MLC N Ramchander Rao, "unsuitable" for the post.
Addressing a preparatory meeting of the TRS in Rangareddy district's Tandur, the minister said that the people of the state had rejected Ramchander Rao when the latter had contested for the posts of MP and MLA in the past, which proved the candidate's unsuitability for the post of MLC as well.
He claimed that unlike the BJP-led states in the country, the Telangana government was known for its commitment to welfare across India.
"We are the only state in the entire country to have set up an extremely comprehensive welfare system. We also set up a fund worth Rs 100 crore for the advocates of the state. Recognising the critical role played by them in the Telangana agitation, we have taken several steps to honour their sacrifices, and had even extended aid worth Rs 25 crore to them during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, I would urge the lawyers of the Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar districts to consider supporting us in the upcoming MLC elections. Voting for our candidate, Surabhi Vani Devi, will ensure the development of the three districts," Rao said.
(The minister' focus on wooing lawyers perhaps stems from the recent furore caused by the
killing of two advocates in Peddapalli.)
Citing that Vani Devi had helmed several educational institutions that had produced one lakh graduates, he urged the voters of the constituency to support her to further the cause of the youth and the graduates. He also urged the managements of the junior colleges in the region to extend their support to her.
