Telangana largely saw mixed reactions to the Union Budget 2017. TRS Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha described the Budget as a partial disappointment as Telangana's expectations, particularly for the agriculture sector and its farmers, were left unfulfilled.
The TRS MP said that Telangana got little budget allocation. Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya were left completely unaddressed.
She also pointed out that the Centre had done away with State-specific allocations and announcements pertaining to various projects. Fulfilling State requirements would now be a year-long process instead of fulfilling them in pre-budget negotiations.
However, The TRS MP welcomed the cut in corporate tax for SMEs generating income of Rs. 50 crores or less to 25%, and the proposal to cut Income Tax from 10% to 5% for those with monthly incomes from 2.5 lakhs to Rs. 5 lakh. She said that the move would widen the tax net and encourage more people to pay I/T.
Kavitha also welcomed the increased budgetary allocations for health, rural development, infrastructure, and defence among others.
