The 'Insaaf' Greater Hyderabad unit on Tuesday staged a demonstration before the headquarters of Andhra Bank, demanding that the banks allow students to open 'zero balance' or 'no frill' scholarship accounts for minority students.
Talking to INN, Insaaf party president Mohd. Yousuf alleged that many minority students who had applied for opening of accounts in Andhra Banks in twin cities and surroundings have been asked to deposit Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 as minimum balance.
He revealed that a request letter was submitted to the Andhra Bank Chairman & Managing Director, for the consideration of opening the 'zero balance' scholarship accounts for minority students. He said that several application forms for the opening of these accounts were also missing from the bank's branches.
Mohd. Yousuf urged the bank's authorities to pay particular attention to Riyasathnagar and Chandrayangutta since most applicants hail from these areas.
The Insaaf party president said the delay in opening the bank accounts was seriously harming the chances of these deserving students obtaining scholarships.
