Committed To Upliftment Of Muslims: KCR
The Telangana CM claimed that his government had initiated several social and economic schemes for the welfare of poor Muslims in the past three years.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today reiterated that his government was keen on the welfare of the Muslims in the state.
Inaugurating the annual conference of the All-India Muslim Education Society (AMES) on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that for centuries Muslims had held important positions in society and were economically and educationally strong, but had unfortunately started lagging behind other communities in the last few decades for various reasons.
The Chief Minister claimed that his government had initiated several innovative educational programs, and social and economic measures for poor Muslims in the past three years.
"Over the decades and particularly during the Telangana movement, we studied the conditions of the Muslims of the region, and were pained at their backwardness. Therefore the Telangana government has taken certain steps for reservations for the community, and fulfilled the constitutional and legal requirements before passing the resolution in Legislative Assembly. The resolution has been sent to the Centre for its approval, and we are pursuing the matter with the Prime Minister and the Centre," he said.
The Chief Minister also listed some other steps his government had initiated for the upliftment of Muslims, including setting up of 206 Minority Residential Schools, and reimbursement of tuition fee for minority students on par with SC, ST and BC students with Rs 200 crores allocated for the purpose.
The government was also paying pre-metric scholarships and overseas scholarship to minority students, and honoraria of Rs. 1,500 per month each to 10,000 imams and mouzins in the state.
All these were indicators of the concern of the Telangana government for the development of the Muslims, he claimed.
