The State Cabinet approved the constitution of Minorities Commissionerate, which was announced by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar on the completion of his two years in office.
Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Minorities Welfare Minister S M Ahmadullah thanked the Chief Minister for taking the cabinet's nod for the Commissionerate. He said that the Commissionerate, the first of kind in the country, would ensure protection and development of Wakf properties and other matters which concerned with the minorities in the State.
Ahmadullah said that the Commissionerate would benefit all the minorities, who constitute about 12 per cent of the total population. He also informed that the Chief Minister has sanctioned Rs 5 crore special grant for Shadikhanas and another Rs 5 crore for the repairs of mosques and churches in the State. He said these funds have to be utilised by the end of this financial year in March.
Regarding the scam in the Minorities Finance Corporation, the minister said that the officials have so far recovered about Rs 36 crore from the culprits. Stating that efforts were on to recover the remaining amount, he assured that not a single paisa would be left unrecovered.
Meanwhile, Congress MLC MS Prabhakar welcomed the Cabinet's approval for the Minorities Commissionerate. (INN)
