TDP Dharna On Politics-Liquor Nexus

TDP MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao estimates that one-third of the cabinet ministers might be involved in the liquor scam.
Hyderabad | 19th December 2011
Demanding the removal of ministers alleged to have a nexus with the liquor mafia, the Telugu Desam Party on Monday staged a dharna at Gollapudi on National Highway No. 9, disrupting traffic.

Leading the agitation, MLA Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao demanded that the government disclose the details of the report of raids by the Anti Corruption Bureau conducted on the liquor syndicate last week.

Asking the government to initiate action against these ministers for their alleged involvement, he estimated that one-third of the cabinet ministers might be involved in the liquor scam.

He also alleged that the family members of Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana have links with the liquor mafia.

Devineni alleged that the liquor syndicate, in collusion with ministers, is selling the liquor at a higher price in shops, violating the MRP and other norms fixed by the government.

He demanded that the Chief Minister give an explanation about the issue to clear people's doubts.

The TDP activists also burnt an effigy of the state government during the protest. (INN)
