The Hyderabad police on Wednesday detained two suspects in connection with the physical attacks on Congress leaders N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Ali Shabbir at the Mir Chowk Police Station on Tuesday during the GHMC elections.
The two were identified as Sayyed Kashaf and Shaik Obaid.
The Meerpet police arrested them and shifted them to the South Zone DCP's office today.
Speaking on the occasion, South Zone DCP Satyanarayana said that they would produce the accused in court on Thursday. He said that they were interrogating the accused, and that the interrogation would be completed by Thursday morning.
He informed that Kashaf belonged to Old Malakpet and Shaik Obaid to Kala Pather. The police had identified them while examining the video footage, he stated.
The police also filed a case against Malakpet MLA Balala. He was arrested after his attack on Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali's son in Azampura. The police registered cases against him under the IPC 341, 448, 427, 506, 147 and 149 sections. Balala was produced at the Nampally court today, where he was granted bail after a trial.
