Top Maoist leader and Maoist Central Committee member Jeenugu Narasimha Reddy, alias Jampanna, surrendered before the police along with his wife H Rajitha recently.
Jampanna, a native of Charlapalem village in Thorrur mandal of Mahabubabad district, had worked in various positions in the Maoist movement for the last 35 years. There was a Rs 24 lakh award on his head, and a Rs 20 lakh reward on his wife's head.
Reports suggested that his ill health - he had been suffering from asthma - had prompted his surrender to the police. It was suggested that a TRS leader played a key role in Jampanna's surrender episode.
Speaking about the ex-Maoist's family, Mahabubabad SP Kotireddy shared that Jampanna's mother Yashodhamma was living with her daughter in Sarapaka village near Bhadrachalam.
