The assistant commissioner of the the Endowments department, R Ramana Murthy, on Thursday, said that the state government would launch Mana Gudi, a mass spiritual program, from 2 August in all temples, to mark the "birthday" of Lord Venkateswara.
Talking to media persons after releasing the posters and stickers of the Mana Gudi program, prepared by the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam, Ramana Murthy said that the program was aimed at unite all sections of people, irrespective of caste, with a call "Sravanam-Srikaram" on Sravana Pournami Day.
He said that the program was aimed at making temples the centres of activity in society.
Stating that arrangements for the program were going on at all temples in the state, he said that bhajans, mass sankeertanams and special pujas would be held to mark Mana Gudi.
Ramana Murthy added that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam has also contributed to the program.
He also underscored the need for educating people about spiritualism and the history of temples, in the wake of people in urban areas stopping their visits to temples. (INN)
