Asserting that the Malkajgiri Assembly constituency was a citadel of the Congress and that victory there in the upcoming elections was certain, Congress activists staged a dharna at the Gandhi Bhavan demanding that the seat not be gifted to Kodandaram's Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) as part of the alliance seat-sharing plan, under any circumstances.
The Congress workers shouted slogans against the state party unit's reported decision to concede the party stronghold to the TJS. The workers said that they were not able to digest the decision, and reminded the leaders that AICC president Rahul Gandhi had stated that no "winnable" seats should be given to the allies.
For the uninitiated, the Congress, the TDP, the CPI and the TJS are fighting the December Telangana Assembly elections together as an alliance currently called the Mahakootami. As part of the seat-sharing, of the 119 Assembly seats in Telangana, the Congress will contest 89, the TDP 15, the TJS 10 and the CPI five.
