Tension prevailed in Kakinada district headquarters when alleged supporters of Mala Mahanadu state President R S Ratnakar resorted to pelting stones at a bus, and deflated the tyres of some others after the leader launched his indefinite hunger fast in front of District Collectorate opposing the categorization of SCs.
The activists allegedly belonging to Mala community stoned a bus, and deflated tyres of a few buses on the Kakinada – Samalkot Canal Road.
The activists, raising slogans against Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, staged rasta roko at Ambedkar Circle on Canal Road, and obstructed the traffic. The activists withdrew their rasta roko after the police arrived on the scene.
Demanding the withdrawal of SC categorization bill, the activists also burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister. Some of the activists also tonsured their heads as a mark of protest.
The activists blamed Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti President Manda Krishna Madiga's move to take an all-party delegation to New delhi to press for the passage of the categorization bill. They said that this would widen the differences between Malas and Madigas.
The protestors also suspected a political conspiracy behind the move to introduce the bill, and attempts to get it passed in Parliament.
The protestors warned the government of serious consequences if it did not drop the proposed categorization of SCs bill.
The police have tightened security across the district to prevent any untoward incident.
