In an effort to safeguard the Mala community's dignity and seek recognition for it, Congress MLA Gaddam Vivek Venkatswamy announced a grand "Mala Simha Garjana" meeting in Hyderabad on December 1.
Speaking to his supporters, Venkatswamy said that unity within the Mala community was important, and urged the community members not to remain silent or passive at home but to actively participate in the meeting.
He added that the event was not intended to criticize any other caste or community but was a platform to advocate for the rightful demands of the Malas.
"The meeting will also address concerns about Article 341 and the potential rollback of reservations. Abolishing this provision will endanger the community's future access to reservations, which are critical for their socioeconomic upliftment. We are not against anyone, but we demand justice for our people. Our unity is essential for us to safeguard our identity and heritage, and to secure our future. This is a defining moment for the Mala community," he said.
Responding to accusations that some individuals within the Mala community were exploiting resources meant for the larger population, he said that their fight was not about dividing resources but about protecting their constitutional rights and ensuring fair representation.
Venkatswamy denounced the "creamy layer" concept, and argued that it unjustly discriminated against certain sections of the community. "I am one of the highest taxpayers and have no government contracts, yet my commitment to justice remains steadfast," he added.
