TDP president and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today urged the Centre to confer the Bharat Ratna upon TDP founder and former AP chief minister late N T Rama Rao, who had "created history in Indian politics".
Addressing the party cadre on the second day of Mahanadu at Gandipet, Naidu said that NTR had brought about a revolution in agriculture, created history in the political field, and strove for bringing about unity among the Opposition parties and brought them onto a single platform.
NTR had also always worked for uplift of the downtrodden sections, and had brought recognition to the Telugu people in the world arena, Naidu said.
The Mahanadu passed a resolution urging the Centre to therefore confer the country's highest civilian award posthumously upon the late leader.
In the resolution, it was also decided to set up a statue of NTR as Lord Krishna on the banks of the river Godavari.
Naidu said that the "Dhoti and Sari" scheme would be named as the "NTR Dhoti and Sari" scheme, and that the TDP government would allocate Rs 400 crores to help the weavers. Dhotis and saris would be bought from the weavers for distribution among the people under the scheme.
Hindupur MLA and son of NTR Nandamuri Balakrishna and Union Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju also spoke recalling the exemplary services of NTR. (NSS)
