Central Zone DCP Venkateswarlu on Saturday evening said that the suicide of Group II post aspirant Pravallika was due to a love affair.
Speaking to mediapersons, the DCP said that Pravallika had joined a hostel in Ashok Nagar 15 days ago. "She fell in love with one Shivram Rathod. Her parents knew about the love affair. But Rathod cheated her and got engaged to another girl. Upon knowing this, Pravallika went into a depression. The matter came to light through WhatsApp chats and CCTV footage. Unable to bear it, Pravallika committed suicide," Venkateswarlu said.
He said that they had sent the suicide note of Pravallika to a forensic lab, and that action would be taken against Shivram after a thorough investigation.
The DCP asseted that the postponement of the TSPSC exam had nothing to do with the suicide of Pravallika. He said that Pravallika had not appeared for any competitive exam so far, and that her suicide was due to purely personal reasons. He urged people not to spread untruths about the suicide.
Marri Pravallika hailed from Bikkajipalli in Warangal district. She was staying at a private hostel in Ashok Nagar at RTC cross roads in Hyderabad, and was preparing for the Group II exam. She committed suicide by hanging herself in her room on Friday when no one was around. It was alleged that she committed suicide due to the postponement of the exam. Students' representatives, Opposition party members and some job seekers protested against the alleged suicide, and tension prevailed at the RTC cross roads late on Friday night. The situation was brought under control with the arrest of the protesters.
Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan also sought a report from the police department on Pravallika's death.
Meanwhile, amidst police security, Pravallika's funeral was completed on Saturday afternoon.
