Liquor sales on the eve of New Year registered huge numbers in two Telugu-speaking states.
In Telangana, liquor worth Rs 173 crore was sold on Friday.
According to statistics released by the excise department of the state, 1.76 lakh cases of liquor and 1.66 cases of beers were sold.
Ranga Reddy district registered the highest amount of income for the state exchequer, with sales of Rs 42.26 crore of liquor.
In Hyderabad, liquor worth Rs 3.13 crore was sold in a single day.
Authorities said that they were able to sell Rs 3,459 crore worth of liquor in December alone, comprising 40.48 lakh cases of liquor and 34 lakh cases of beer.
In Andhra Pradesh, liquor worth Rs 124.10 crore was sold on Friday.
Authorities extended the timings for the sale of liquor by one hour in all the wine shops and bars. They also kept the stocks of premium brands.
