Chief Minister K Rosaiah, on Tuesday, submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, urging him to lift the ban on exports of rice, to facilitate procurement of foodgrains in the State and in order to provide space in warehouses for the storage of grains.
Talking to media persons, the Chief Minister revealed that the Prime Minister reacted favourably and assured to look into the issues after discussing with officials concerned.
He also urged the PM to provide 250 rakes for the transportation of foodgrains in warehouses through railways.
Rosaiah also pressed for the supply of 2 lakh metric tons of urea in the Rabi season for the State.
Reacting to the Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu's
dharna seeking the PM's appointment, the Chief Minister that such dharnas were not improving the image of the State.
He asked Naidu, who he said has a vast experience in the political field, to behave in a dignified manner instead of resorting to cheap tricks before the PM's visit.
"The PM has a busy schedule and has no time to meet any leader in the State," he said.
"If Naidu has real commitment towards solving farmers' problems, he can meet the PM in New Delhi and raise their them", he added.
