BRS working president K T Rama Rao announced today that he would undertake a padayatra across Telangana in response to demands from party workers.
During his "Ask KTR" campaign on the X platform, which lasted nearly an hour and a half, KTR addressed various issues and answered numerous questions from users.
Party workers said that leaders from various parties in the country had been highlighting governmental failures, with many political party presidents undertaking padayatras to bring these to the people's attention and simultaneously strengthen their parties. They asked when KTR would embark on his own padayatra. In response, KTR confirmed that he would indeed undertake a padayatra.
He also seized upon the opportunity to criticize the Telangana Congress, saying that the Congress rule resembled governance from Delhi, for Delhi and to Delhi. "The Congress rule has become a curse for Telangana. The Congress government shows no intention of fulfilling the promises the party made to the people. Instead, it deceives the citizens with lies and untruths. I cannot recall a single positive action taken by the Congress in the last ten months. A better administration cannot be expected from a party that came to power through false promises. They have resorted to political harassment to cover up their failures," he alleged.
KTR specifically pointed out the Congress reneging on its promise to provide bonuses for premier quality rice. "We will fight for the farmers who are suffering due to the lack of support prices or Rythu Bandhu," he said.
He expressed optimism that the Congress would lose power in four years, but said that it would still be a huge challenge to address the damage inflicted by the current government. "Since the Congress assumed power, the State's economic progress has completely collapsed. Telangana is lagging behind in all areas," KTR claimed. "All the State's revenue sources are depleted, and all sectors including agriculture are in recession. Unemployment has risen, and many companies are leaving Telangana. No one knows what plans the State government has regarding these issues. It is impossible to rectify the damage caused by the Congress rule," he said.
When asked about the potential for overturning Congress rule in the light of strong public opposition, he said that it would require waiting for another four years, as the people had given the Congress a five-year mandate that needed to be respected.
In response to a question about whether the Chief Minister would serve a full five-year term or switch to the BJP due to the cash-for-vote case, KTR said that anything could happen in politics, particularly considering the history of the Congress.
