BRS working president K T Rama Rao today demanded that if the Telangana government made a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation in the Legislative Assembly, the principal Opposition party must be given an equal opportunity, in keeping with the norms and spirit of parliamentary democracy.
Addressing media persons at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said that all MLAs enjoyed equal rights on the floor of the House, with no distinction between the Chief Minister and other legislators. "If the government presents its version, the Opposition must also be allowed to present facts," he said.
KTR said that the BRS was fully prepared to explain how agriculture and irrigation in Telangana were transformed during its decade-long rule. He recalled that when former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao made a presentation in the Assembly in 2016, the Congress had opposed it as being against parliamentary tradition. "What was unacceptable then, how has it become acceptable now?" he asked, and added that a letter had been submitted to the Speaker seeking fairness.
Launching a sharp attack on the government, KTR questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's understanding of irrigation and river basins, citing alleged factual errors related to major projects. He also flagged "failures", including the collapse of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel and Sunkishala retaining wall, and the submergence of the Vattem pump house.
Accusing the government of neglecting the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, KTR asked whether any additional acreage had received irrigation water under the current regime and whether even a single tank or canal had been restored.
He concluded by reiterating the BRS' demand for an equal opportunity to present its case in the Assembly.
