BRS working president K T Rama Rao today said that there should be a State-wide celebration over the rejection of the proposal by the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) to hike the electricity charges in Telangana.
He said that the celebrations should be held as a sign of victory in the battle to stop the proposed burden of Rs 18,500 crore on the people of the State.
He called upon the BRS cadres to hold the celebrations in the district headquarters and Assembly constituencies of the State.
KTR said that the State government had made proposals to increase the electricity charges by Rs 18,500 crore within just 10 months in office, and that the BRS fought tooth and nail to oppose the imposition of that burden on the people. He said that he had himself participated in a public hearing and convinced the ERC on the issue.
"In three public hearings held in Hyderabad, Nizamabad and Sircilla, we strongly opposed the imposition of an additional burden of Rs 18,500 crore on the people," KTR said.
He said that the ERC recognised the reasonableness and justice of the BRS' argument, and rejected the proposal.
On behalf of the people of Telangana, KTR expressed gratitude to the ERC Chairman Ranga Rao and members Manohar Raju and Krishnaiah, and called the ruling a victory of all the people of Telangana.
