KTR Asks Officials To Open Secunderabad Cantt Roads

Minister K T Rama Rao today directed Secretary (Urban Development) Arvind Kumar to reopen the 21 roads closed by military officials in 2018, in the Secunderabad Cantonment area.
Hyderabad | 19th March 2021
Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao today flayed the BJP-led Centre for the "continued" closure of the roads in the Secunderabad Cantonment area, alleging that this had been causing a lot of inconvenience to the people of the state capital.

Taking to Twitter, the minister assured the people that the issue would be resolved soon through a meeting with the local military officials. He also directed Secretary (Urban Development) Arvind Kumar to convene a preliminary meeting on the issue. His tweet reads, "Request @arvindkumar_ias to have a preliminary meeting on the illegal closure of roads in SCB. We will certainly stand with our citizens in ensuring the unwarranted inconvenience is addressed (sic)."

Kumar has responded by saying that he will hold a meeting with local military officials and resolve the issue amicably.

KTR's comments came after a local NGO, Green Sainikpuri, appealed to him to take steps for the opening of the closed roads to the public.

It may be said here that the state government has, time and again, urged the Centre to resolve the issue. The prolonged closure of the roads in the cantonment has been a source of great trouble to the locals in the area. Taking cognisance of this, the TRS regime has already sent several letters to union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to take steps to resolve the problem. However, the matter has gone largely unaddressed by Singh or any other officials of the Centre.

Reports say that the 21 roads closed by military officials in 2018 remain closed even today.
