The Telangana CM ordered the construction of special reservoirs to cater to the drinking water needs of Hyderabad through waters from the Krishna and the Godavari.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today directed officials to construct special reservoirs to cater to the drinking water needs of Hyderabad through waters from the Krishna and the Godavari rivers.
At a high level review meeting at his camp office, KCR asked them to ensure that there was no dearth of drinking water for the people in the twin cities, and for the industries, companies and business establishments located here, through a plan of action to address the higher needs of the future.
He said that the existing 1.42 crore people in the twin cities and the adjoining areas now needed 42.58 TMC of waters in a year. Including the waters in the lakes, reservoirs and Manjeera, and coupled with those from the two rivers, the availability was now 32 TMC, he said, adding that arrangements should be made quickly to overcome the problem.
He stressed the need for enacting a Right Of way Act as was done in case of the Water Grid, and said that the Palamur Lift Irrigation Scheme water would also be used for providing drinking water to the twin cities.
When he called them up for speedy permissions to avoid hurdles for the works related to the waters, officials of the National Highways Authority and the railway departments responded positively, KCR said. He asked for the speedy completion of works necessary to extend tap connections to every household.
Commercial Taxes Minister T Srinivas Yadav and relevant officials were present in the meeting.
