Khammam MP Nama Nageswara Rao, of the BRS, today said that the Paleru reservoir was always full under the leadership of KCR during their BRS regime.
As part of his tour of the Paleru constituency on Sunday, Rao visited the dried-up Paleru reservoir.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that during the 10-year rule of the erstwhile BRS government, farmers were provided with continuous irrigation and drinking water, but that those had ended under the Congress government.
He said that some 15 lakh acres of land had dried up across Telangana due to lack of irrigation waters, and that there was a huge loss of paddy crop in the Khammam district.
"Your promises have brought about a situation where there is even no water to drink. People should be given at least drinking water by their governments," he said, and demanded that drinking water and irrigation water be provided to the people of Telangana immediately.
He also said that the BRS leaders would visit the areas where crops had been damaged.
Earlier in the day, officials checked the Rao's vehicle at the district border toll plaza check post.
Former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar also said that the drought was due to the inaction of the Congress government. He added that the government was not even giving the Rythu Bandhu funds to the farmers, and demanded Rs 30,000 per acre for the farmers who had lost their crops. He also said that water should be taken from the Krishna rivers to meet the drinking water scarcity for the next three months.
Former MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah said that the BRS would win a majority of the seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. "People are already seeing the difference between KCR and the Congress rule," he said, adding that the Congress government had no foresight.
