Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will make his maiden official visit to the noted tribal festival Medaram Jathara in Jayashankar-Bhupalapally district on February 2.
According to information received, the visit by the Chief Minister is confirmed.
The Telangana government conducted the same Jathara two years ago in 2016 on a grand note. Although the Chief Minister did not attend the festivities at that time, he is keen to visit it this year.
With about one crore people from several districts expected to participate in the mammoth event, the government has made elaborate arrangements. Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari himself visited the Jathara site on Sunday and inspected the facilities.
For the uninitiated, KCR as the boss of the TRS had visited the Medaram Jathara along with his wife Shobha in 2012 and had offered prayers seeking statehood for the region. After achieving statehood in 2014, the Chief Minister could not make it to the first jathara for some reasons. However, he is reportedly keen to make it this time as he wants to seek the blessings of the presiding deities Sammakka and Saralamma of the jathara to be able to win the next general elections.
The police are making bullet-proof security arrangements for the Chief Minister's visit to the site.
