The prestigious Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project will be launched on Friday, June 21st, 2019, in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, after prayers.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will inaugurate the much-touted project by releasing waters from the Kannepally pump house and the Medigadda barrage after a two-hour-long homam.
Health Minister Etala Rajender inspected the arrangements at the project site with officials a day before its launch. The government pressed into action five helicopters and 16 helipads at different places, given all the VIPs expected to make an appearance. The chief guests of the event include AP and Telangana Governor E S L Narasimhan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Andhra Pradesh CM Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
The Telangana government constructed the project at an estimated cost of about Rs 80,000 crores. The project is expected lift water from a height of 92 m above sea level to 618 m above sea level (stage-wise), and irrigate 45 lakh acres in 13 districts in Telangana (for two crops a year), pushing agriculture production in the State to a new high. It is also expected to provide drinking water to every household in Telangana including in Hyderabad.
The choppers pressed into action will bring the chief guests of the event, Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadavis, for the launch. The CM of Andhra Pradesh Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is also attending the inaugural function.
