Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao presented "mutyala talambralu" and silk clothes to the presiding deities Lord Sri Rama and Sita to mark their wedding at Bhadrachalam in the Khammam district.
The celestial wedding was performed in the Ekashila Mandap in the Mithila grounds in the Abhijit lagna at 12 noon in the presence of thousands of devotees, who came not only from the two Telugu States but also from the neighbouring States including Odisha and Chattisgarh. Defying the scorching sun, devotees gathered in the temple town chanting the Rama namam.
Earlier, KCR left his farmhouse in Erravelli in the Medak district in a helicopter and landed in the temple town. On arrival, he was accorded a tumultuous welcome by ministers, legislators and officials. The CM was accompanied by his wife and his grandson Himanshu (son of K Taraka Rama Rao).
While the Chief Minister carried the sacred silk clothes of the celestial couple on his head, Himanshu carried the mutyala thalambralu on his. Ministers Tummala Nageshwara Rao and A Indrakaran Reddy, union minister Bandaru Dattatreya and others accompanied the CM. Indrakaran Reddy also presented silk clothes to the deities on the occasion.
After offering prayers, KCR announced Rs. 100 crores for executing developmental works in the Khammam district. The Chief Minister said that he would hold talks with spiritual guru Chinna Jeeyar Swamy on the temple's development. The State government would take necessary measures to develop the Parnashala, Jathayu Mandap and other facilities at the temple, he declared. He also added that two projects had been sanctioned for the Khammam district in order to prevent the drought situation in the district.
KCR also accused the Opposition parties of making a hue and cry over the government's irrigation schemes. "The Khammam district is located in the midst of two rivers - the Godavari and the Krishna - and there will not be any problem pertaining to irrigation. We are committed to taking up works to irrigate one crore acres in five years. Telangana has emerged as the No. 1 State in the country by implementing welfare schemes, and this will be a continuation of the same," he remarked.
The TRS government plans to complete the Sitarama Project at a cost of Rs. 7,967 crores, and KCR laid the foundation stone for it at Rollapadu in the district last February. The Sitarama lift scheme was redesigned replacing the Rajiv Sagar and Indira Sagar projects to bring five lakh acres in the district under irrigation. KCR predicted that the district would witness some miracles upon the completion of the Sitarama Project.
