Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao congratulated and complimented GENCO & TRANSCO CMD D Prabhakar Rao on his department meeting the highest demand ever in the state of over 10,000 MW today.
For the first time in history, on Tuesday forenoon the power demand touched 10,429 MW in Telangana. Despite such a high demand, power supply was uninterrupted all over the state, with no power cut recorded even for a minute.
The Chief Minister complimented Rao for this when the latter called on him at Pragathi Bhavan this afternoon.
The CM mentioned that the experience and expertise of Rao, who had worked for a long time in the department, helped in achieving such a great feat. The CM said that he had always believed that the power companies would function better and the power supply would also be better if both of them (GENCO & TRANSCO) had a single leader for better coordination, and it was proven true now.
The CM also said that the forecast of erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh leaders that if a separate Telangana were to be formed the new state would be plunged into darkness had been proven wrong, and that the state was supplying round-the-clock power to all sectors.
KCR also congratulated all the staff of the department. He also described the demand of 10,000+ MWs as an index of development. Even the per capita power utilization of Telangana was 33% higher than the national average, he said. The round-the-clock quality power supply was resulting in industrial units and IT companies coming in a big way to the state, he claimed. Due to 24-hour power supply agricultural production had also increased, he said.
Thanking the Chief Minister, the CMD said that it was due to the guidance of KCR and the encouragement from the government that the power organizations could achieve these results. He said that 11,500 MW of demand was anticipated during the Kharif season, and the department had made all necessary arrangements to meet that, too.
