Due to the severe heat wave and steep increase in the day temperatures, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed that summer holidays be declared for the schools in the state from Thursday.
The Chief Minister felt that it was unsafe to send children to schools as the day temperatures were quite hot, and asked the Education Minister and officials concerned to ensure that schools stayed close for summer holidays from Thursday.
The instructions were applicable to both private and government schools, a press release from the Chief Minister's Office stated.
The summer vacation was originally scheduled to begin on April 24, and the last working day for the schools was to be April 22. All the government and private schools in the State will however now remain closed from April 20.
Temperatures at many places in the state were recorded at above 43 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, and are predicted to cross 45 degrees Celsius by the weekend.
