Rich tributes were paid in Telangana to Bharat Ratna late Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar to mark his birth anniversary on Tuesday.
Various leaders garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar at Tank Bund and described him as the champion of the downtrodden.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Deputy Chief Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali, and ministers Nayani Narasimha Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav paid tributes to the leader.
Speaking to media persons later, the Home Minister said that the TRS government was following the ideals of Dr Ambedkar. He said that Babasaheb, as the leader was called, was in favour of smaller states, and his model of development still held relevance.
Commercial Taxes Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav said that the state government was providing land to poor dalits and taking serious steps for the development of the Scheduled Castes (as the dalits are referred to in officialese) in the state. (INN)
