Deputy CLP leader in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Tuesday alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was cheating nearly 10 lakh beedi workers by going back on his promise of giving them pensions.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Shabbir Ali said that KCR had promised pensions for beedi workers during the election campaign. The promise was included in the TRS manifesto, too.
However, he said that there was no clarity on the implementation of this promise, although he had raised the issue in the Telangana Council twice.
He said that Nizamabad had the highest number of beedi workers at 3.5 lakhs, followed by Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad.
Shabbir Ali said that the TRS government needed to clarify whether the pension by the State government would be separate from the existing pension of Rs. 1,000 being given by the Centre.
He also ridiculed the promises of KCR of turning Telangana into China. (INN)
