Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha today denied the allegations of her involvement in the Delhi liquor policy scam, and termed them as vindictive politics by the Bharatiya Janatha Party.
Speaking to the media after attending a Sahasra Chandiyagam conducted by Ibrahimpatnam MLA Manchireddy Kishan Reddy at Yelimanedu village of Ranga Reddy district, Kavitha claimed that she was in no way involved in the scam, and that all the allegations were baseless.
"I want to make it clear that all the allegations against me by the BJP are baseless. I have nothing to do with the ongoing Delhi liquor policy probe. The BJP is trying to malign the reputation of my family. We're not those who back off - we'll put up a fight," the TRS MLC asserted.
Kavitha recalled how the family members of KCR had faced allegations during the Telangana statehood struggle, too.
"We never bowed our heads in front of anyone then, and neither will we now. The BJP leaders are dreaming of weakening KCR by levelling charges against me. Those will be just futile attempts. All of our efforts are only to strengthen our country on all fronts," Kavitha said.
"The Centre has initiated a mudslinging campaign against the opposition without giving answers on the issues of the Bilkis Bano rape case and unemployment. It is not healthy for a democracy to malign the image of opposition party leaders for exposing the failures of the union government," Kavitha said.
Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was dragged into the row by West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma of the BJP, who alleged that she had played a crucial role in the multi-crore liquor policy scam allegedly involving Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Verma claimed that KCR's daughter was the "middleman" between the liquor mafia and the Aam Aadmi Party government.
Another BJP leader, Manjinder Singh Sarsa, also alleged that Kavitha had facilitated meetings at The Oberoi in New Delhi and had brought liquor barons from the south.
The liquor scam assumes significance in view of the heated political atmosphere in Telangana. The resignation of a Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy and his joining the BJP, and the ensuing by-election for the Munugodu Assembly seat, too have added political tensions.
Meanwhile, according to the party sources, Kavitha is now planning to file a defamation case against Parvesh Varma and former MLA Manjinder Singh Sarsa. She will also reportedly move court seeking an injunction against those making the allegations.
