Kashmiri students, pursuing their higher studies in various universities of Hyderabad, on Monday staged demonstrations against the hanging of Afzal Guru and offered funeral prayers in absentia at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) campus.
The Kashmiri students of MANUU and Osmania University gathered at the main gate of MANUU and offered funeral prayers in absentia. Later, they held demonstrations for an hour against the hanging of Afzul Guru while raising slogans of "Is India's collective conscience satisfied?", "We want justice" and "Afzal Guru - victim of injustice" students walked through the various departments of the varsity.
Speaking on the occasion, the students said that, "Burying Afzal Guru inside the jail and refusing to hand over his body to the family was an extreme kind of injustice." They demanded that Afzal Guru's body be handed over to the family. "The Government of India has hanged Guru to make communal parties like BJP, RSS, VHP happy and to achieve political gains in view of 2014 general elections," they alleged.
"Despite apparent evidences against the killers of Rajiv Gandhi, the government is using dilly-dallying tactics in executing them, but why has Afzal Guru been hanged without keeping the sentiments of Kashmiris into consideration?" they questioned. (INN)
