Agriculture minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, on Friday, said that he would take a delegation of farmers' leaders to New Delhi on 21 August, to speak to union Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar about their demands.
Talking to media persons, Kanna Lakshminarayana said that the delegation would inform the minister about the prevailing drought in AP, and seek relief and rescue operations, apart from the release of funds from the Centre for farm operations.
Admitting that farmers were facing a delicate piquant situation due to the dry spell in some parts of the state, he said that the government was taking all measures to rescue them.
Lakshminarayana said that the government was considering spending more funds for agriculture without linking it to the allotments in the state budget. Reiterating that the government was committed to farmers' welfare, he said that it is according top priority to the mechanization of agriculture, by spending Rs. 450 crores. The mechanization of agriculture will reduce the financial burden on farmers, and make farming a profitable business, he said. (INN)
