A team of doctors at Kamineni Hospitals, L B Nagar, have successfully reconstructed the crushed hand of a tow driver Krishna Nookam, 24, hailing from Komaram, Nagarkurnool, Telangana.
The team of surgeons including Dr Rajesh Deshamukh, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon; Dr Vishal Khante, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon; Dr Siril Sathyanandam, senior plastic surgeon; Dr Jaya Prasad, senior orthoscopic surgeon; and Dr Suresh, senior anaesthesiologist; replanted and restored Krishna's hand at the Kamineni Hospital in L B Nagar.
It was reported that while driving a tow, Krishna had met with an accident when a 35-ton lorry ran over his left upper arm. His co-workers and bystanders took him to a hospital at once, where he was advised amputation. They then referred him to the Kamineni Hospital in L B Nagar for definitive management.
Krishna was brought to Kamineni with a severe de-gloving injury where the skin was totally peeled off and the limb had compromised blood supply with near-dead muscles. In a marathon exercise, the team of surgeons conducted a series of plastic reconstructive and micro-vascular surgeries to restore the hand.
It was reportedly done with precision that makes the hand now look normal, and the surgeons' effort not only saved Krishna's hand but also his livelihood.
Krishna remained in the hospital for two months and the limb improved gradually. Following seven major surgeries, he finally gained the normal functions of his hand, and was discharged from the hospital today.
