Taking a serious exception over the
police firing at Kakarapalli in Srikakulam district, Telugu Desam President (TDP) N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday demanded a judicial probe into the incident.
Talking to media persons at Telugu Desam Legislature Party (TDP) Office, Naidu criticized the state government for not responding to the incident even after 24 hours. To compound matters further, the Assembly session was adjourned abruptly without discussion on the issue, the former chief minister said.
Alleging that the government was not bothered about solving the problems of the people, he wondered how the protestors could have died when rubber bullets were fired, as claimed by the police.
Naidu asked the government to set up a judicial commission to bring to light the true facts. He also criticized the police for acting irresponsibly instead of trying to hold discussions with agitating villagers.
The former Chief Minister demanded that the government initiate action against the guilty police officials.
Demanding a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs to the next of kin of the 2 protestors who died due to the police firing, the TDP chief announced that he would visit Kakarapalli on Wednesday to gain firsthand information about the incident from the villagers.
Naidu further alleged the government of turning the state into real estate company by handing over valuable properties to private companies.
He also demanded that the government set up a commission on the usage of power produced from private power plants. "The state will not use the 50,000 MW power produced from private power plants. The power plants would cause damage to local environment," he stated.
Expressing concern over the frequent adjournments of the House, Naidu said that the Assembly should discuss all public interest issues concerning the people properly.
Reacting to the reports that former Congress minister J C Diwakar Reddy had invited him to a meeting of Seemandhra leaders for a 'United Andhra' discussion on March 5th, Naidu said that the Congress leaders lacked the guts to talk to him over the statehood issue.
"I have already made my stand clear on Telangana state issue. The Centre has to act responsibly and take a final decision on Telangana issue as early as possible considering the state's interests," he stated.
